At Home #13: Zoom Sessions May 19-21

Ms. Maria continued Zoom sessions for all The Montessori House students learning at home.

Each week, we’ll post links to video recordings of select sessions.   For this week:

Tuesday May 19:

  • Ms. Maria reads books  most appropriate for younger children up to age 4 and does Beginning Sounds Bingo Set #1

Wednesday May 20: 

  • Ms. Maria reads books  most appropriate for younger children up to age 4 and does Beginning Sounds Bingo Set #1

Safety: Apron and Safety Goggles (or sunglasses) — not required, but a good habit

    1. Tiny fireworks:  approx. 1/8-1/4 cup inexpensive vegetable or mineral oil; 2-4 colors food coloring; approx. 1-2 cups tap water (about room temperature); 1 tall clear glass/cup; a metal spoon; a 1-cup measuring cup; paper towels
    2. Lava lamp:  2 versions (choose one OR both; I’ll be showing both)
      • A.  1 tablet Alka Seltzer or denture cleanser (or similar effervescent tablet); approx. 1-1/2 cups inexpensive vegetable or mineral oil; 1 color food coloring; approx. 1/8 – 1/4 cup tap water (about room temperature); 1 tall clear glass/cup; a metal spoon; a 1-cup measuring cup; paper towels
      • B.  Approx. 3 tablespoons baking soda; approx. 1-1/2 cups inexpensive vegetable or mineral oil; 1 color food coloring; approx. 1/8 – 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar; 1 tall clear glass/cup; a metal spoon; a 1-cup measuring cup; paper towels
    3. Ooblek:  2 cups corn starch; 1 cup tap water (about room temperature); a 1-cup measuring cup; a large mixing bowl (ideally plastic, but glass will work, too); a metal spoon; paper towels; a bowl of warm water nearby for dipping hands into

Thursday May 21:

  • Ms. Maria reads books

  • Ms. Maria leads students in fun movement and dancing — have space to move if you want to join in!

  • Ms. Maria creates an Emu art project, teaches the children about the emu, and reads as story: Edward the Emu;

Here are materials and equipment if you want to be ready to create with Ms. Maria:

    • Colored construction paper — 1 sheet
    • One white paper plate, cut in half (so a semi-circle)
    • Brown paper bag (lunch bag or grocery bag) that your child can tear into smaller pieces
    • Glue (prefer liquid glue (not glue sticks) that you can pour into a small vessel — there’s a lot of gluing)
    • One cotton ball
    • Black marker (to draw on the paper)
