At Home #14: Zoom Sessions May 26-28
Ms. Maria continued Zoom sessions for all The Montessori House students learning at home.
Each week, we’ll post links to video recordings of select sessions. For this week:
Tuesday May 26:
- Ms. Maria reads books

- 1 piece of cardstock or thick paper – standard size
- a pencil
- squirt school glue (not glue stick) – will need about half a small bottle
- 1 – 2 Q-tips/cotton swabs
- 3 – 5 colors of watercolor paints and and a small bowl of water — OR — 3-5 colors of food coloring, in small bowls, slightly diluted with water
- 1 or more small clean paintbrushes OR eyedroppers OR pipettes
- about 1 cup of salt poured into a small bowl
- a spoon
- paper towels
- Ms. Maria ends the morning with some fun movement and dancing — have space to move if you want to join in!

Wednesday May 27:

Ingredients:
- 1 can of refrigerator crescent rolls
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons water
- For salty pretzels: approx. 2 tablespoons coarse salt
- For sugar/cinnamon pretzels: approx. 2 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 – 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Approx. 1/8 cup flour
Materials:
- Parchment or waxed paper – we’ll use about 15″
- 1 pizza cutter (or knife, but the pizza cutter works best)
- 1 small bowl for mixing egg and water
- If making sugar/cinnamon pretzels: a small bowl for mixing cinnamon and sugar, and a spoon
- 1 fork
- 1 small basting bruch to apply egg wash
- 1 large plate or cutting board
- 1 cookie sheet
Bake at 375 for approx. 13-15 minutes or until golden brown and looking just a little crispy.
Remove from oven and let cool a few minutes before carefully taking off sheet.

1. Gas Makes a Getaway
- 1 unopened bottle/can of a clear (if possible) carbonated drink (seltzer, 7-Up, ginger ale, etc.; darker carbonated beverages also work but you may not be able to see as well)
- 1 or 2 clear cups/glasses, medium to tall
- 3-6 grapes (any color)
- paper towels
- Optional: a few raisins, a spoonful of sugar
2. Walking Water: Cohesion and Adhesion
- a roll of waxed paper (we’ll only use about 6-8 inches)
- 2-3 colors of liquid food coloring (optional, but more fun)
- 2-3 small cups
- about 1 cup of water in a measuring cup
- a small metal spoon
- paper towels
3. Simple Machines: a Lever
- a ruler or other flat stick about 10” – 14” (you can use a jumbo popsicle stick, but it’s best to use something a little longer)
- 2 small metal or plastic spoons
- 1 – 2 rubber bands or some tape (rubber bands are easier)
- a wooden spoon
- a “fat” marker or spool of thread, or something about that circumference
- 2 – 3 cottonballs and/or pompoms and/or a few pieces of dry cereal (Cheerios, etc.)
- Optional: 2 – 3 small plastic bowls (like cereal bowls)
- Ms. Maria ends the morning with some fun movement and dancing — have space to move if you want to join in!
