International Festival 2024

August 8th, 2024

We invite all our 2024-25 school families to participate in The Montessori House International Festival on Saturday, October 5.

Here are some of the many ways you and your family can participate (remember, the more families, the better):

  •  Booths:  School families create “booths” representing countries of their choice.  “Booths” can feature food, games, customs, clothing, and/or interesting facts from cultures around the world.  But don’t let the word “booth” scare you; some of our most popular booths in the past have involved simple presentations, easy activities for the children, or foods from the represented country.  Families can make booths themselves or join with other families.  A booth can reflect your family’s heritage, or simply a country or region that interests you.
  • Food:  We ask all families who attend to bring an ethnic dish of their choice.  This gives The Montessori House families yet another way to experience the great diversity that makes up our school.
  • Other volunteer opportunities:  The day of the Festival, we’ll need help decorating the playground, setting up food tables and chairs, coordinating the food contributions as they arrive, and cleaning up when the festival ends.

What’s next?

It’s time to start organizing the Festival.  We’ll spend some time on Meet the Teachers Night (Tuesday, Sept 3, 7 p.m.) discussing the Fest, and if needed we will have another planning meeting after school (provisionally Thursday, Sept 7, 3:05 p.m.) or via Zoom one evening.  In addition, our families will receive a regular stream of emails with updates and volunteer opportunities.

Summary of our enrollment process:

We take applications throughout the year.   For the school year starting September 2024, we have full-day and half-day morning Montessori programs openings available for children born after October 15, 2018:

  • For ages 5 & 6 years old: our mixed age Montessori Kindergarten program (full-day or half-day morning)
  • For ages 30 months to 4 years old: our mixed age Montessori Pre-Primary program (full-day or half-day morning)

To be considered for placement, families visit the school for a tour (book it online) and submit a paid application (download from our Admissions page).  In January 2024 we offer placement for September 2024 to currently enrolled students, and we then offer guaranteed placement to new students, roughly in the order we received their application.  We continue to have rolling admissions until our sessions fill at which time we start a wait list.

You can find our 2024-25 tuition rates here (and Summer 2024 rates too)

We offer tours most school days.  Tours are most informative when the classroom is filled with students and teachers, but we can only host one adult (no children) during the school day (if two adults come, we may take you into the classroom individually or together, depending on activities in the classroom that day). In our experience, visiting parents get the most from their time when they don’t have to also keep an eye on a toddler. If you have childcare available, we recommend a tour when classes are in session.  A personal, private tour during the school day starts at 9:45 a.m. and usually take about 45 minutes, with a generous amount of time in our classrooms.

But, if that’s not convenient for you, we want you to visit and are happy to have your child accompany you for a tour.  After school tours start after 4:00 p.m., usually for about 45 minutes, and are limited to two adults and two children.

You may schedule a personal tour online or contact us by texting/calling us at 201-816-8343.  Or we’ll contact you: e-mail us at admissions@themontessorihouse.com with your phone number and your child’s birth date, and we’ll reach out to schedule a visit.

We urge families interested in entering September 2024 to come visit soon: schedule a school visit and submit an application.

For more information, please contact us text/call us at 201-816-8343.

Stargazing

August 25th, 2022

Wanted to share this note from a Montessori House School parent …

Good morning Ms. Maria,
I wanted to tell you a story from our trip out to Utah this summer and the absolute joy I got to experience because of The Montessori House Enrichment Program. One night we participated in a stargazing experience with an expert that worked with NASA. Through a telescope we were able to see the moon, a number of different aged stars, Saturn and Jupiter. Throughout our evening, the guide kept asking us questions and our son M. was able to answer so many of them to the astonishment of not only the guide but my entire family as well.

In true M. fashion, he ended the experience a little upset that he was not able to see the rest of the planets, specifically Mars, but he survived.

The entire time I was filled with absolute gratitude for The Montessori House and the education that he has received these past few years and I cannot wait for everything he will get to learn this year.

See you in a few weeks — M’s mother.

Open Today (Fri, Jan 7) Enjoying the Snow!!

January 7th, 2022

Since our families come from a wide range of communities, the road conditions in each family’s community can be very different.

If getting your child to school is inconvenient or unsafe, then do not hesitate to keep your child at home.
